"A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit." Arnold H. Glasow
This reminds me to the analogy of THE MIRROR AND THE WINDOW in the book “Good to Great” by Jim Collins.
1) Look out the window and give credit to those responsible for positive outcomes
2) Look in the mirror and take ownership of negative outcomes
Lead yourself, Learn to live. Lead others, Learn to Build.

This quote is the essence of the authentic leadership style and usually builds very good relationships with the reports. I think every leader needs to build trust with the team, encourage and reward great performance but also needs to take responsibility of the team's less than ideal performance. That doesn't mean that bad performance is encouraged, it just shows the team that the leader has their back... and most probably everyone will try a little harder next time to improve their work.
